About

Deze Japan reis begint in het bruisende Tokyo, waar wolkenkrabbers en tempels elkaar moeiteloos afwisselen. Vervolgens reis je per comfortabele hogesnelheidstrein naar het sfeervolle Hakone, beroemd om de warmwaterbronnen en – bij helder weer – de prachtige uitzichten op de iconische Mount Fuji. Daarna brengt de trein je naar Kyoto, de culturele hoofdstad van Japan, waar je kunt genieten van eeuwenoude tempels, traditionele wijken en serene Japanse tuinen.

In Kyoto haal je de huurauto op en begint een bijzondere route door het hart van Japan. Je rijdt door de prachtige Japanse Alpen en bezoekt het historische postdorp Magome waarvandaan je een stuk van de historische Nakasando trail kunt lopen. Je bezoekt Matsumoto met zijn beroemde kasteel en het sfeervolle Takayama, waar de traditionele houten huizen en gezellige straatjes je terugbrengen naar het Japan van vroeger. Na deze afwisselende roadtrip keer je terug naar Kyoto, waar je de huurauto weer inlevert.

Als afsluiting reis je per trein naar het levendige Osaka. Hier verblijf je nog twee nachten en heb je alle tijd om de bruisende sfeer, de heerlijke Japanse keuken en de gastvrijheid van deze veelzijdige stad te ervaren. Daarna vlieg je, ongetwijfeld met een koffer vol mooie herinneringen, terug naar Nederland.

About the destination: Takayama was settled as far back as the Jōmon period. The city is best known for its inhabitants' expertise in carpentry. It is believed carpenters from Takayama worked on the Imperial Palace in Kyoto and on many of the temples in Kyoto and Nara. The town and its culture, as they exist today, took shape at the end of the 16th century, when the Kanamori clan built Takayama Castle. About a hundred years later the city came under the rule of the Tokugawa shogunate. However, the high altitude and separation from other areas of Japan kept the area fairly isolated, allowing Takayama to develop its own culture over about a 300-year period. The city was formed on November 1, 1936 by a merger of the towns of Takayama and Onada. On February 1, 2005, the town of Kuguno, and the villages of Asahi, Kiyomi, Miya, Nyūkawa, Shōkawa and Takane (all from Ōno District), the town of Kokufu, and the village of Kamitakara (both from Yoshiki District) were merged into Takayama, which made Takayama the largest city in Japan by surface area.
